After the Twenty20 World Cup the next big tournament is going to start today with two strong teams South Africa and Sri Lanka will be fighting in the opener of the ICC Champions Trophy 2009. South Africa are in their top forms and they have a wonderful warm-up game against the West Indies.
Irfan Pathan, who is going through a lean patch in his cricketing career, had something to cheer about on Eid. Irfan, who has a penchant for cars, got the perfect gift he could have got - an expensive and elegant brand new Toyota SUV from his elder brother Yusuf Pathan.
It was just few weeks ago when Yusuf had told film director Farah Khan on a TV show that he always gifted things to Irfan as they share a very warm relationship. The lanky hard-hitting batsman gifted the white-coloured SUV, which he had selected well ahead and kept it a well-guarded secret from his sibling. "It was a surprise gift for me. I came back from Bangalore two days ago and was busy preparing for Eid. Though the car was bought five days ago, no one from my family told me about it,".
"It was only on Sunday night that my sister told me that Yusuf had bought a car for me. She took me to the car that was parked few blocks away. I loved it a lot. I always wanted a stylish SUV and Yusuf knew it," Irfan said.
Some of the biggest names in football came together to pay tribute to Sir Bobby Robson at a remembrance service at Durham Cathedral on Monday. The former England manager died at home in Langley Park on July 31 at the age of 76 following a long battle against cancer. Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson, England coach Fabio Capello, football legend Sir Bobby Charlton and Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola were among the 1,000 guests at the service.
Former England players including Gary Lineker, Paul Gascoigne, Alan Shearer and Stuart Pearce also attended. Lineker, who played in Sir Bobby's Italia '90 England World Cup side, praised his "hugely supportive and fiercely loyal" former coach, telling the congregation: "Sir Bobby Robson, we will miss you but we will never, ever forget you."
Michael Owen stole the show in a derby for the ages as Manchester United demonstrated why the team from Old Trafford remain the city’s dominant force. In the fifth minute of stoppage-time, the substitute strode onto Ryan Giggs’ precise pass, looked up and calmly found the bottom right corner.
Alex Ferguson danced, Mark Hughes looked punch drunk. One of the most eagerly awaited Manchester derbies had become one of the most dramatic.

The Renault team have been given a two-year suspended ban from the Formula One world championship after admitting to race-fixing, the governing International Automobile Federation said on Monday.
Renault The French car manufacturer, appearing before an FIA World Motor Sport Council hearing in Paris, had said it would not contest accusations the team ordered Brazilian Nelson Piquet to crash his car into a wall at last year's Singapore Grand Prix so that Spanish team-mate Fernando Alonso might win.
"The ING Renault F1 team admitted that the team had conspired with its driver Nelson Piquet Jr to cause a deliberate crash at the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix, in breach of the International Sporting Code and F1 Sporting Regulations" the FIA said in a statement.
The suspended ban will last until the end of the 2011 season.
"The World Motor Sport Council considers Renault F1's breach relating to the 2008 Singapore Grand Prix to be of unparalleled severity," the statement added.

Tiger Woods ensures No. 1 ranking going into the final tournament of the FedEx Cup with an 8-stroke win at the BMW Championship
It's been two years since the world's No. 1 golfer could put it on cruise control the way he did Sunday at the BMW Championship, his win capping a stellar stretch of events that will likely be remembered more for his failure at the PGA Championship.
Still, starting in late July at the Buick Open, Woods went 1-1-2-2-11-1 in the tournaments he played, a kind of run that only a few could fathom. It was his sixth victory of the year, 71st of his PGA Tour career, and gave him a whopping 10 wins by eight strokes or more.
To win three times in six tournaments might be a dream for some, but for Woods that domination has come to be expected.
And yet, it gets him very little as far as the FedEx Cup playoffs are concerned.
Woods will head to Atlanta for the Tour Championship in two weeks in first place in the standings, but hardly comfortable. Sort of like the Yankees winning Game 3 of the World Series in a blowout or the Patriots heading to the Super Bowl 18-0 -- you still have to finish it off.
Tiger Woods has won a championship after two years
This is looking like a one sided onslaught and for England, it is like the Chinese torture. Painful and never ending. Hello and welcome to the penultimate ODI of this long series. As it was the last time around, this one holds not much importance if you decide the importance of games in terms of their relevance to the result of the series. But England will like to find a way to win.

MS Dhoni's number one ODI batsman's tag is under threat from deputy Yuvraj Singh while the top one day team's status beckons India, provided they complete a clean
sweep in the tri-series starting tomorrow.
As India prepares to leave for Sri Lanka for the tri-series which has New Zealand as the third team, Dhoni is the number one batsman in the chart with 44 rating points
separating him from second placed Yuvraj and the order might undergo a change depending on who performs better.
Andy Murray loves New York, even if the feeling wasn?t exactly mutual Sunday night at the U.S. Open.
Murray had to play the role of the bad guy, ending American wild-card entry Taylor Dent?s improbable run with a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 victory in the third round at Flushing Meadows.
?Obviously the crowd wanted Taylor to win,? Murray said, ?but I played very well.?
The No. 2-seeded Murray is trying to become the first British man since the 1930s to win a Grand Slam singles title. The 195th-ranked Dent of Newport Beach, Calif.,
meanwhile, was thrilled to return to the U.S. Open for the first time since 2005?and even more pleased to win two matches.
Dent once was ranked as high as 21st, but he was told by doctors he might not be able to play professional tennis again after having three back operations.
?It?s nothing but positive for me. This is a huge step forward in my progression,? Dent said. ?I?m glad to be back, but I?m sorry I?m not sticking around.?
Rafael Nadal was treated for a stomach muscle problem during his third-round victory at the U.S. Open on Sunday.
The No. 3-seeded Nadal beat No. 32 Nicolas Almagro 7-5, 6-4, 6-4 in an all-Spaniard matchup.
Nadal already was comfortably ahead when both he and Almagro received treatment from trainers after the third game of the third set. Nadal had a patch applied to his
stomach, while Almagro had his back worked on.
Nadal wouldn?t discuss his health afterward.
?I don?t want to talk about injuries,? he said. ?Sorry. No, no. I am a little bit tired to talk about injuries.?
Nadal is a six-time major champion who is trying to complete a career Grand Slam by winning the U.S. Open.
Kim Clijsters claimed her biggest win since coming out of retirement as she defeated third seed Venus Williams 6-0 0-6 6-4 in the US Open fourth round.
The former world number one, in her first Grand Slam for two years, breezed through the opening set with a flurry of powerful winners.
Williams regrouped and came blazing back, but was undone as the Belgian clung to a solitary break in the third.
A slight, yet crisp breeze floating through the trees. The faint aroma of beer and cheese emanating from a nearby food vendor.
Open your eyes and this gritty town in the heart of New England still resembles the Badger State, as one glance at the leaderboard shows a pair of cheeseheads attempting
to turn the rest of the field into melted provolone.
Jerry Kelly playing with fellow Wisconsin native Steve Stricker, joked after his round that watching Stricker's putting stroke for 18 holes Sunday certainly helped him with the
flatstick.
Old pals Steve Stricker and Jerry Kelly teed it up together in the 12:05 p.m. ET pairing at the Deutsche Bank Championship on Sunday for what very well may have been the
500th time in their lives. Or the 1,000th. Heck, maybe more, for all they know.
